Imbolc

Each year, on the 1st or 2nd of February  followers of the Goddess movement and Christians alike will be celebrating St Brigits day or Imbolc.

‘In the belly’ is one of the definitions of the word Imbolc, which is a perfect term to encapsulate the meanings of this fertile turn in the Celtic season.

As we approach the halfway mark towards springtime, Imbolc offers us the perfect opportunity to plant physical and metaphorical seeds of intention.

The Irish Nun, Brigid is the Christian patron saint of St Brigids day. Whereas the triple Goddess Bride / Brigit is the deity of the Celtic fire festival Imbolc.

So who is St Brigit / Bride and how can you capitalize on her archetypal energies on this special day?

The keeper of the Flame of inspiration, Brigit is a fire goddess of:

Home, Hearth, Fertility, The Light, Generosity, Planting Seeds, and Acting upon New ideas.

She is the protector of: Children, Livestock, Poets, Blacksmiths.

To usher in her energy of new beginnings you could:

*Have a spring clean, out with the old and in with the new.

*Cook a meal for your family.

*For just 2 minutes on the 2nd, switch every light on in the house.

*Make a Bride doll or a Brigit’s cross to bring good luck for the coming year.

*Place a white candle in a lantern outside your door for a blessing from Brigit.

*Sit around a fire and make a gratitude list.

*Write or read poetry.

*Perform fertility spells.

*Perform prosperity spells.

*Buy a bunch of Daffodils.
