Friday the 13th Lore, Magick and Ritual

Just like walking under a ladder, crossing paths with a black cat or breaking a mirror, many people believe that Friday the 13th brings bad luck, but why do so many people think Friday the 13th is an unlucky date?

Throughout history, the Patriarchy has cemented this date with superstition.

Just a few examples include (before we get onto the magickal part):

-It is said that Jesus was crucified on a Friday and that 13 people sat at the table of the Last Supper.

-Hundreds of the Knights Templar were put to death, on Friday 13th, 1314.

-Friday 13th was deemed an evil date by the Catholic Church due to its connotations with women.

Each year, females that menstruate, do so 13 times. Equally, there are 13 full moons and as we know the moon is perceived to be a symbol of the feminine.

-Friday 13th even has its own phobia! Friggatriskaidekaphobia (triskaidekaphobia) is the name of an extreme fear of Friday the 13th!

-The Death card in the Tarot is number 13.

With all this doom and gloom it’s no wonder that some people worry over this day, that’s enough to have anybody quaking in their boots.

Thankfully not all cultures share this morbid perception!

-Egyptian and Chinese people see the number 13 as the most favourable number there is.

-According to Wikipedia, The Italian expression “fare tredici” (literally, “make thirteen”) means to hit the jackpot.

-13 is a special number to witches, a coven has 13 members.

-1+3 = 4 which represents balance, abundance, the directions.

-13 is the number vibration of your Guardian Angel, seeing 13 0r 1313 means they are trying to get your attention.

-It is also the signature number of Archeia Lailah, Dawn of the Goddess. She is the twin ray angel with Archangel Azrael Whom God Helps.

They are the angels of the transitions of birth and death. They are said to be the most physically beautiful angels, that when you see them you simply fall in love (Radleigh Valentine).

Here are some ways in which you can celebrate Friday the 13th!

  •  Say goodbye to your fears – take a black candle in both hands and think about all of your worries. Use the power of your mind to ‘send your fears’ down through your arms and hands and into the candle. Intend that flame transmutes the fears as it burns away, cleansing the negative energy that it has absorbed.

  • Honour the feminists that fought for Women’s Rights (and still do so)– Share a post about an inspirational woman or help out a female friend. Perhaps you could mind someone’s children or visit an elderly lady.

  • Call in your wise woman Soul Sisters – If you are yet to meet your soul family in this lifetime and are now ready to find them. Place 12 lit tea light candles in a circle, placing a 13th in the centre. Sprinkle 12 rows of rose petals connecting the centre candle to each of the 12 outer candles while saying

“13 women for 13 moons, with the 13th apostle our magic blooms, sisters of magick whom I dance in the moonlight, I call forth your alliance on this holy night”

Allow yourself to daydream while the candles burn down, visualise your soul family overjoyed to be reunited with you.
